The fire started around 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 15, at the home located at 9 Cottage Street in Danbury.
Fire and police units were immediately dispatched. Danbury Police Officer Stephan Cameron was on routine patrol in the area and arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke coming from the home, said James Gagliardo, public information spokesman for the department.
Cameron made sure all occupants were out of the house and notified the fire department there was a working fire in the kitchen.
Danbury Fire Department units arrived to find the fire in the kitchen, being fed by a broken gas line. Firefighters were able to quickly douse the flames, Gagliardo said.
With the help of Eversource, one unit in the two-family home was restored to prevent residents from being displaced, while the other occupants from the fire apartment will stay with family, he added.
The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire which is undetermined at this time.
There were no injuries reported.
Residents are urged to make sure their smoke alarms are up to date and in working order.
